One of Yunnan’s unique aboriginal ethnic minority groups, the Bai minority has a population of 1.51 million, most of whom live in compact communities in Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. The Bai minority boasts a long history, and its folk arts like the Bawangbian dance, the straw hat dance and the Dabenqu ballad are brimming with joyous festivities. Folk traditions and festivals of the Bai minority include the buoyant Third Month Fair, the Raosanling, “ushering in the bride” and a number of others. The traditional “Three-course Tea” of the Bai minority has been praised as one of the rarities of the Chinese ethnic tea ceremonies.

The Bai Village is built on a land patch measuring 62.5 mu, and typical traditional Bai-minority architectures in the village include the “sanfang yizhaobi” (a compound enclosed by three buildings and a facing screen wall), the “sihe wutianjing” (a compound consisting buildings and five courtyards), the “tie-dying mill”, the “houses with exquisitely carved wooden windows and doors”, the “in-garden tea house”, the “Bai opera stage”, the “Benzhu (literally meaning “local god”) Temple”, and the Three Towers of the Chongsheng Temple which are reduced to 1/4 of their real sizes. The row upon row of compound is consisted of spacious and neatly deployed houses. The “Dali Street” which extends from north to south is constructed in the Bai Village for selling refined handicraft works, and the “Bai-minority Folk Customs Museum” and the “Butterfly Exhibition Hall” have been constructed along the street.
